In fact, awning cleaning is a fraction of the cost of awning replacement. In addition, hand-washed cleaning can extend the life of your awning considerably. On an average sized awning, the cost of regular maintenance cleaning and sealing works out to less than $1 per day to extend the life of your awning and keep your business store front clean and professional.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>What are the benefits to having my awning professionally cleaned?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>It is much less expense to clean and maintain your awning verses full replacement costs.<\/li>\n<li>Many things can cause your awning to decay and weaken: pollution, dirt, bird-droppings, mildew and other contaminants. A dirty awning will need patching, repair or replacement sooner than later.<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning your awnings prolong their life. It&#8217;s not just to improve aesthetics. A properly cleaned and sealed awning simply lasts longer.<\/li>\n<li>Regular maintenance cleanings will keep your storefront looking clean and professional.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>How often does an awning need to be cleaned?<\/h4>\n<p>Mr. J&#8217;s Services recommends that your awning be cleaned every 1 to 2 years for canvas and no less then every 6 months for vinyl awnings and vinyl backlit awning signs. If you have a Cooley awning, Cooley will void all warranties if not cleaned every 3 months. However, the frequency will depend on the environment and accumulations of contaminate matter.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Can my awning be cleaned on-site?<\/h4>\n<p>Yes, your awning can be cleaned on-site. Only in rare circumstances is it necessary to remove the awning for cleaning.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>How do you clean the awnings?<\/h4>\n<p>Mr. J&#8217;s Services cleans all awnings by hand using a soft bristle brush and with approved chemicals according to the awning manufacture&#8217;s recommendations as to not void the warranty or to harm the awning. Mr. J&#8217;s Services does not employ high-pressure or mechanical equipment. These same cleaning principles are used for siding cleaning.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>How clean can you get an awning?<\/h4>\n<p>Depending on how much cleaning is needed, the cleaning results of Mr. J&#8217;s Services can be very dramatic. After a job is finished, we often hear the words &#8220;That&#8217;s a huge difference. It looks new!&#8221; Most environmental and biological contaminants (dirt, mold, mildew, feces, etc.) can be removed from an awning. However, paint, rust and permanent stains often cannot be safely removed. Our experience and expertise serve as a guide to know when attempting to remove these types of contaminants or stains would cause more damage to the fabric.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Will cleaning hurt the awning fabric?<\/h4>\n<p>Proper cleaning of an awning using the manufacturer&#8217;s recommend process of hand scrubbing using a soft bristle brush and approved detergents will not harm the fabric or stitching of your awning. Canvas awnings should be cleaned and sealed once every 1 to 2 years depending on its location. Vinyl awnings and backlit awning signs should be cleaned and sealed no less then every 6 months. In awnings 5 years old that have not been properly maintained, it is common for the cotton or poly-blend stitching to break down and rot from UV exposure and from moisture. Acrylic awning stitching is much stronger, but still doesn?t last forever. Fortunately, proper professional cleaning and sealing helps extend the life of all stitching materials and the fabric of both canvas and vinyl awnings.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Why should I have my awning cleaned by hand instead of by pressure washing?<\/h4>\n<p>First, pressure washing an awning will void the warranty. Awning manufactures recommend scrubbing the awning with a soft bristle brush using approved detergents. Secondly, pressure washing an awning can rip and tear through even new awning fabrics. Even if you don?t see any damage immediately after pressure washing an awning, it is there. The stitching is damaged and the seams will soon come apart requiring the awning to be removed for repairs. This is why Mr. J&#8217;s Services will not be responsible for any seam splitting on awnings that have been pressure washed. They?re simply not designed for that localized water pressure. This can lead to premature aging, discoloring and total awning replacement. And finally, hand washing involves a level of detail that removes more debris and contaminants that pressure washing can leave behind, without damaging the awning. The end result from hand washing is clearly superior.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Can an awning be cleaned with a pressure washer?<\/h4>\n<p>By design, awnings weren?t designed for and should never be cleaned with pressure washers. It&#8217;s more likely the awning will be damaged or destroyed by the localized and extreme force of pressure washing. Most awning fabrics will support less than 300 pounds of water pressure. Awnings are meant to support water at rain levels. Some awnings will even rip apart during storms. Most pressure washers deliver well over 1,000 PSI at the point of contact. Pressure washing will easily cut through awning fabric leading to costly repair or total awning replacement.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>If my awning does need repair or re-stitching, do you handle that?<\/h4>\n<p>Mr. J&#8217;s Services only does minor repairs or re-stitching. In most cases we recommend that you contact the awning company that made or installed your awning for any repairs. If you do not have an awning company, Mr. J&#8217;s Servies can help you find a reputable awning company for current and future repairs.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>What is the typical lifespan of an awning?<\/h4>\n<p>It&#8217;s true that outdoor fabrics have a typical lifespan, but it&#8217;s difficult to determine just how long any particular awning fabric will last. Depending on the amount of direct sunlight exposure, the temperature extremes in harsh environments, and the high\/constant moisture levels, an awning may only last 5-7 years without regular maintenance cleanings.
